"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

- Carl Rogers

My Approach:

We can learn what we need to feel fulfilled and achieve the changes we want.  This process encompasses the following 4 elements.

  • Awaken: It's time to step back. Pause, and look around.  How do you relate to people? How do you relate to yourself? In therapy, we will explore patterns and manners of behaving. It is important to scope the landscape before we embark on change and growth.  This stage is marked by curiosity.
  • Compassionate Acceptance: As you explore your personal landscape, the next step toward change is acceptance - of what has happened, and what is, without judgment. We will welcome, acknowledge, accept ourselves and life in such a way that will allow us to make the changes we want.  This stage is marked by compassion.
  • Value-Based Reassessment: Once we decrease the intensity of your inner critic and judge yourself less, honest reflection will help you begin to unveil your true desires for change. You get to decide who you will be, keep the positive and shed the uncomfortable layers. This stage is marked by clear vision.
  • Conscious Action: After identifying areas of growth, we will develop strategies and plans well aligned with your personal values.  You will make choices that bring you closer to your vision. This stage is marked by intention and purpose.

My Commitment to You:

  • Listen: I will intently listen to not just your words, but your facial expressions, your emotions, and your body language.
  • Seek to understand: I will be curious and encourage exploration with wonderment.
  • Offer feedback: I will inform you of what patterns I see, interpersonal dynamics at play, and will ask you to inform me of what resonates with you.
  • Set goals: I will help you create goals for therapy and keep us on target.

I am Guided by the Following Principles:

  • Environments shape us.  We are what we experienced so context matters.
  • We are all doing the best we can with what we know.
  • Compassion and awareness are fundamental for progress to occur.
